THE BRIGHT SPARK JOURNEY
Founded by husband and wife team Tim Harbage and Linzy Mahoney, Bright Spark Brewing is years in the making. Although it felt like a pipe dream in the early years of their relationship, a decade (and many business plan iterations) later, the dream has been realized.
Tim began his career as a chemical engineer in the microchip industry but quickly saw how his expertise could open doors into the world of beer. Starting in 2011, Tim worked for several breweries, each giving him a unique perspective on the brewing industry. Starting at Rock Bottom brewpub in San Diego, Tim moved to then start-up Golden Road Brewing, where he went from first hired brewer to head brewer of their Los Angeles headquarters facility. From there, Tim took on positions spearheading expansions at Smog City of Torrance and eventually Figueroa Mountain Brewing in Buellton.
Tim and Linzy met in 2011 while Linzy was publisher and owner of Edible Los Angeles Magazine. Her magazine's craft beer educational articles informed and introduced her readership to the complexity and value of the burgeoning beer movement in Los Angeles. Linzy's work in recipe development and testing, for both her publication and the cookbooks of industry peers, gave her the confidence to add a food element to Bright Spark's business plan. Offering food reinforced their goal of a family-friendly atmosphere, showcasing a fresh take on family recipes.
With the goal to create a warm, welcoming community space with something for everyone, Bright Spark opened its doors in November of 2022.
